Safelink Wireless, the largest provider of free government cell phones, offers service in Connecticut. Eligible applicants will receive a free cell phone (no fees charged what so ever) and free monthly cell phone service. Users are free to choose one of the three cell phone plans below.

In order to qualify for Safelink Wireless service in Connecticut, you must be a participant of one of the following public assistance programs:\
- Federal Public Housing Assistance/Section 8
- Social Security Income (SSI)
- Medicaid/ Title 19 (Including Husky and Healthy Start)
- Food Stamps
- Care for Kids
- Connecticut Energy Assistance Program
- Contingency Heating Assistance Program
- Personal Care Assistance
- Refugee Program
- Rental Assistance
- State Administered Genera Assistance
- State Supplement to the Aged, Blind, or Disabled
- Temporary Family Assistance
If you qualify for Safelink Wireless under this method, you do not have to provide supporting documentation, but sign under oath of perjury. If you qualify under this method and the next, it is best to apply using this method, because the application is easier.
The last two requirements for qualifying for a Safelink Wireless free government cell phone in Connecticut is that only one Lifeline Assistance phone is allowed per household. So if you or a household member currently subscribe to Assurance Wireless, Reachout Wireless, Safelink Wireless, or Lifeline Assistance land line, you will not qualify for a free Safelink Wireless cell phone.
The last requirement to obtain a free government cell phone Safelink Wireless is that you must apply from a valid US mailing address. No post office box may be used in your application form. Unfortunately, homeless people will have difficulty meeting this requirement.
